Lala Pyare Lal Kapoor

Lala Pyare Lal Kapoor and Lala Jagannath Mittal were almost simultaneously advocating in Jalandhar. Due to the government job of the father, you got admission in DAV School, Lahore in the third grade and started living in boarding house. You started advocating in Jalandhar in 1918 by passing the BA from D.A. V College Lahore and later LLB.

With an event of your study period, one gets beautiful evidence of your faith towards Arya Samaj. While studying at the college, you were among the number of hockey players in Punjab and the captain of the Hockey Team of your college. Prof. Jones, the ‘Incharge of Hockey Team’ of Government College Lahore, tried to drag you into his college. At that time, getting admission in the Government College of Lahore was a big deal. But Prof. ‘Jones’ arranged with his help and your name was above all the new students to be enrolled. But when you were going to enroll, on the way you got Mahatma Hansraj, the immediate Principal of DAV College. He knew his college students well. When you told them that you are going to join the Government College, he refused to do so and obeying his commands, you left the idea to take advantage of such an opportunity.

Later, on the question of Prof. Jones, you said, “I could not have avoided the command of my revered principal.” Prof. Jones became your friend and began to respect you for this feeling of yours.

Coming with the rituals of Arya Samaj from childhood and living in personal contact with the great people like Mahatma Hansraj and Principals Sain Das, when you started to practice with Lala Devraj Ji and Rai Bahadur Badridas’s friend Lala Karam Chand, it was natural for you to come to the service sector of Arya Samaj and Kanya Maha Vidayalaya. Lala Jagannath Mittal was a friend of your study period. He came to this service area in 1918 itself. You served the Arya Samaj and Kanya Maha Vidayalaya with full loyalty till your death in 1964. You remained the managing director of the Kanya Vidayalaya - Member of the House and also an assistant minister for a long time. You also remained a minister of Jalandhar Arya samaj. You also had a hand in the management of Doaba School.

You had a big contribution in the establishment of the Doaba College in 1941. Sports and exercise remained your hobby. You did not go to the cinema, but you never left the circus. You used to like races instead of excursions. Even in winter, you seldom used to wear warm clothes. You also had personal contact with renowned wrestler Ramamurthy, and you have also been practicing the breaking of the iron chain like him. After your death, that iron chain and stick was found from your house. Your son Dr. Chaman Lal explains-

“By nature you were assured. A member of Jalandhar Bar had said that among the 126 members of the ‘Bar’ the most fortunate person is Pyarelal Kapoor. “You used to say about death, ‘What is death? If one did not wake up from sleep, one died.’ You never used to let anyone touch the feet and seldom used to take the physical service from others. You remained confident even in the atmosphere of violence in 1947. You used to say, “If there is an attack, then you will fight. Will kill two-four and die.”

Acharaya ji tells-

“You used to regularly attend meetings and were rarely absent. You used to do your duty with utmost diligence which was assigned to you.”

Your health had not been good in the last years of life, but till the end you remained happy and calm. In the year 1964, at the age of seventy years, you died.
